Review the renewal window against a verified expiry source
For a China national registration, the current Trademark Law provides a ten-year registration term from approval. Each renewal lasts ten years from the day after the previous term expires. Current Trademark Law, Articles 39–40.
The table is a review aid for national registrations. A Madrid international registration designating China follows the WIPO international-registration renewal route. Identify the route first; do not apply the national filing window to an international registration.

The 12-month window and possible six-month grace period come from current Article 40. This table does not calculate an individual deadline or decide boundary dates, holiday treatment, status or acceptance.
CNIPA's renewal guidance, section 39, printed pages 164–165 requires a valid registration and a filing within the statutory period; grace-period filing carries an additional official charge.
The revised Trademark Law takes effect January 1, 2027. It is not yet operative on this source-check date; recheck applicable rules for a file crossing that date.
Keep renewal, ownership changes and disputes on separate tracks
Renewal does not itself correct an owner's name or transfer the asset. Current Article 41 requires an application to change registered particulars. The assignment and ownership-change guide covers those separate tasks.
Agree on watch variants, goods or services, databases, review frequency and escalation authority. Monitoring cannot guarantee detection of every conflict. Use the opposition and evidence-planning guide for that workflow. Refusals, oppositions, cancellations, invalidations and evidence work require separate assessment.
Prepare an instruction file with a source and an owner for each decision
Use one worksheet row per registration and class, covering route, owner, expiry source, status-check date, renewal/grace review, instruction owner, approval date, existing agent and open questions. Leave unknown facts blank and explain the gap. This is a coordination worksheet, not an official form.
For national renewal, CNIPA's official guide identifies the application and identity documents, a power of attorney when an agency is instructed, and Chinese translations for foreign-language application documents. The actual file and route determine what must be supplied.
- Start with public right numbers, current owner details and the source of any deadline.
- Identify pending owner changes, transfers, notices or proceedings for separate review.
- Name the instruction, budget-approval and correspondence contacts before work begins.
Confirm the renewal fee and broader portfolio scope in writing
The published fee schedule lists $500 per class for a standard trademark renewal covering up to 10 standard goods or services; additional items are $20 each. This is the website's commercial scope, not CNIPA's official-fee formula. Chinese government fees are included only within the stated standard scope; confirm any late charge and additional work in the written proposal.
CNIPA's April 24, 2026 fee clarification states an official renewal charge of CNY 500 per class for paper filing or CNY 450 for electronic filing. These official charges differ from the commercial scope above. Owner changes, assignments, contested matters, evidence and non-standard work are scoped separately. Broader portfolio management remains matter-based.
Agree on responsibility, then close the handover with a record check
Confirm the right, route, business issue and timing. Complete conflict, authority and confidentiality steps before sharing private files. Agree on fees, the responsible entity and deadline ownership. Retain receipts and correspondence, check the resulting record and assign follow-up. A submission receipt is not approval.
Questions about this service
When can a China national trademark registration be renewed?
Current Article 40 provides 12 months before expiry and a possible six-month grace period. Verify exact dates and status. Madrid international registrations follow the separate WIPO route.
Does renewal update an old owner name or expand the registered scope?
Renewal is not an owner-record correction, assignment or expansion of protection. Review the actual corporate event and proposed scope separately.
Can you take over a portfolio filed by another firm?
Potentially. First reconcile identifiers, owners, status, deadline sources, correspondence and open matters, then confirm acceptance and responsibility for the handover.
What does the representative renewal price cover?
The published commercial schedule is $500 per class for up to 10 standard goods or services, plus $20 for each additional item. The written scope controls government-fee inclusion, late charges and additional work. The wider portfolio service is quoted matter by matter.
Does monitoring or renewal include defending a dispute?
Contested matters are separately scoped. Agree on watch criteria, reporting and escalation; monitoring does not guarantee that every conflict will be found, and renewal does not resolve a refusal, opposition, cancellation or invalidation.
