China Copyright Registration

Copyright can arise without registration, but a Chinese registration certificate may be useful evidence in licensing, platform complaints and some enforcement settings.

No online checkout. We review the matter first and confirm the scope, fees, and contracting entity in writing.

Who this is for

For software, artwork, aesthetically distinctive packaging designs, written works and other eligible creative content with a China business or enforcement need.

Issue to address early

Functional industrial products and their utilitarian features are not presented here as copyright works. Eligibility, originality, ownership chain and deposit materials must be reviewed for the specific creative content; product appearance should be assessed separately for design-patent protection.

Typical standard scope

Document authorship and ownership for eligible works used or enforced in China.

Before you instruct us

Connect the work, its creator, and the proposed applicant.

For a brand asset, illustration, photograph, or software project, begin with a short description of the work and its business use. Identify who created it and whether an employee, contractor, studio, or other party was involved.

Explain any transfer or licensing arrangement and the reason you need the registration. We can then identify the records and representative materials to review, agree on the work covered, and distinguish registration preparation from a separate ownership dispute or enforcement matter.

Information to prepare

Start with identifying information, then share material safely.

Common questions

China Copyright Registration

What content is suitable for copyright review?

Software, artwork, aesthetically distinctive packaging designs, written works and other original creative expression can be reviewed for eligibility.

Can an industrial product itself be registered as copyright?

No. Functional industrial products and utilitarian features should be assessed through the appropriate patent route. Eligible aesthetic packaging artwork or other separable creative expression can be reviewed independently.

Can a company apply?

Often yes, subject to the authorship and ownership record.

When is a separate quote needed?

The listed work types have a standard total fee of US$360. Other work types or additional work require a separate quote. Classification, ownership history, deposit format and supporting evidence may affect the final scope and fees.
